Horse Race! The came of chance. Gather with family and friends to play a couple rounds! Use coins or poker chips to place bets. Playing cards are dealt out to players and those cards indicate what horses you have. (King, Ace and Jokers are removed; Queen =12 and Jack =11) The two dice are rolled and totaled up each roll to move the indicated horse. Scratch areas are used to take out several horses at the beginning of the game and start the winners pot. Rules on how to play will be included.

Made from various light colored hard woods (typically european beech, cherry, maple, or birch), this game board is built to last.

The game comes with a deck of cards, two dice, game rules, and choice of eleven metal playing pieces.

The boards measure approximately 15in by 8in and can be personalized by naming your track! (i.e. Jones' Track, Smith Downs, etc) *I will reach out to you with font options.

Horse Race Dice Game Rules and Play

Set Up:

  • Remove the Joker, Ace, and King cards from a standard 52 card deck of cards

  • Dealer shuffles and deals the remaining deck of cards equally among players, and leftover cards are set aside to the discard pile.

  • Scratch 4 horses

    • Starting with the player to the left of the dealer, roll the dice to determine scratched horses (rolling an 8 scratches the #8 horse, 11’s are Jacks and 12’s are Queens)

    • For each card a player holds for the scratched horse, pay amount indicated in scratch row (ex: $0.25, $0.50, $0.75, $1 OR $0.05, $0.10, $0.15, $0.20)

    • Discard scratched horse cards. Your remaining cards are your bet slips and the horse/horses that you want to win.

    • If a roll during the scratch process is a repeated number, the roller pays that horse's scratch amount. This will result in fewer than four horses being scratched.

    • Scratched horses will not race.

Round of Play:

  • Beginning with the player to the left of the dealer, roll the dice

  • Move the indicated horse one space forward in their column

  • For each die roll for a scratched horse, pay the amount to the pot indicated in the scratch row

  • Continue play until a horse wins the race!

End of Race:

  • Each player with the card of the winning horse wins!

  • Each card is worth one quarter of the jackpot

End of Game:

  • The game ends when one person has all the money OR when players decide to stop playing. When choosing to stop, the player with the most money wins!

Possibilities for House Rules:

  • How much the scratch amounts are.

  • How many cards are dealt per person.

  • How repeat rolls during the initial scratch set-up are handled. (Ex: Re-rolled to guarantee four horses are scratched)

  • If buy-ins are allowed after running out of money.

  • Adding various bet slips, such as side bets stating whether the #10-12 will go further along the track than #6/8, or if a horse will not leave the starting gate. Get creative with payouts or side bets!
